Nuur Africa is a USA-based 501(C)(3) non-profit organization with operations throughout Africa. The organization was started by a group of professionals living in North America but bound by a common objective of helping rural communities in Africa develop local solutions for improving their livelihood through relief and capacity building in the agro- pastoral sector.
Fostering economic empowerment for rural communities in Africa through relief and capacity building in the agro-pastoral sector in order to create self-reliance.
We are data driven, we value impact over vanity, and seek the most effective ways to develop sustainable solutions that help small-scale farmers regardless of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation or national origin.
Despite having over one quarter of the world’s arable land, farmers on the African continent still lag their peers in other regions when it comes to output and productivity. This challenge creates an uninterrupted cycle of migration, malnutrition, lack of economic opportunity, and poverty.
Target Programs Focused on Maximum Impact
Millions of small-scale farmers throughout Africa lack proximity to water and irrigation systems for their crops or cattle. This forces them to travel long distances to manually fetch water and carry it back to their farms. It is often women and children performing these activities resulting in injuries, low productivity and inefficient processes.
To help alleviate these constraints, boost output, and create self-reliance, Nuur Africa funds the building of water wells and irrigation systems for under-served farming communities in rural Africa.
To foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in the agro-pastoral, Nuur Africa sponsors an annual entrepreneurship contest in rural communities across Africa where the winning teams are provided with seed funding, training, mentorship and a support structure to carry their idea to execution.
Trees are a vital resource for rural communities in sub saharan Africa. They provide shade, shelter, prevent soil erosion, restore degraded land, are a valuable source of food and nutrition and therefore a powerful tool in tackling poverty and improving the lives of rural communities. Through its Tree Planting For A Better Future program, Nuur Africa sponsors the reforestation of vulnerable zones to support farmers.
Small-scale farmers often lack resources or technical know-how in yield improvement, pest control or optimal input utilization. The third party expertise required for these training is at a cost that is out of reach for these farmers. To help bridge this gap, Nuur Africa identifies and funds technical experts to train farmers in modern techniques to maximize their output.
Nuur Africa is led by a talented and multi-disciplinary team that brings together a wide range of relevant skills and experience
